Dear Mr. President,

There is a major issue that I think needs to be addressed. I am talking about health care. Three things that are wrong with our health care are the vicious cycle of the uninsured, the amount that we spend on our health insurance, and who really pays for health care. Mr. President I hope that you take this letter seriously and treat it with respect, because I think that this is a serious problem that needs to be dealt with.
This vicious cycle is continuing as we speak: The cycle of the uninsured. The cycle goes like this: The people who are uninsured cause the premiums to rise, which then causes the employers to drop their health care plans, which then make more people uninsured, which then causes more employers to drop their health plans, which then repeats all over again. According to Sue A. Blevins of the Greenhaven, the vicious cycle of the uninsured is a continuing cycle that probably will not be stopped unless there is a Universal Health care plan implemented.
Another problem that we have with our health insurance is the amount that we pay on it. We Americans spend $988 billion on health care and yet we are also one of the countries with the most uninsured people. Not only that but about one fourth of all of our health care costs are on non-medical costs, such as bills or paperwork. So, what does that mean to us? It means that we are spending too much money on health care costs when we could be using the money for other things, such as diversifying our energy resources. According to Susan Brink of the Greenhaven Press
Another problem with our current health care is who really pays for it. It isn’t the employers and the government officials but the taxpayers and the employees. They believe that they are getting “free” health insurance when they are really just getting health insurance instead of higher pay, even when their health insurance probably won’t cover what they need it to cover. Economist Charles Phelps argues that “every dollar paid for health insurance is a dollar not paid in wages.” What Charles Phelps was saying is that when a person gets health insurance they are doing so in the place of a higher pay or a raise. So if that’s the case then why not make it to where the working class can have complete health care and higher wages.
The three problems: The vicious cycle of the uninsured, the costs of health insurance compared to the number of uninsured, and the people who really pay for health insurance needs to be solved. So Mr. President why not fix these problems with a universal health care plan? There is no excuse when we pay too much money on our own health insurance not to.

Dear Mr. President,
I feel that you could help with drug and alcohol abuse in America. In my 13years of life I have seen what alcohol can do to people especially when they have drank way too much. Same with Drugs. There are many kids who have been put into foster care because their parents abused drugs and or alcohol. In this letter to you I will be explaining why I think alcohol and drugs should be banned from people, and how they need to get help with there addictions.

First off, I think people under 21 shouldn’t have access to any alcohol what so ever. There should be more consequences to people fewer than 21 who drink under the age. This way maybe they will stop doing it. I think you could make it to where they don’t have so many chances before they get into a lot of trouble. If only they knew how much alcohol can kill you.

Secondly I think young teens should not be able to get a hold of any drugs. Personally I think all drugs should be illegal. There is no reason for Drugs in America. All they do is kill you off faster. You could help by stop having people produce Marijuana. Marijuana is the easiest drug to get a hold of in America. There is a study showed that when someone asked teens how easy it would be to get a hold of this drug 23% of kids said it would take an hour or less and 42% said they could get it in a day or less. That’s how easy it is for a teen to get Marijuana. This has increased 14% in the last year. This is why I think you should make all drugs illegal.

Thirdly, I think you could make more speeches on how this is a problem. Maybe if this becomes a bigger deal and there are more consequences to drinking under the age and drugs being given and sold to teens. Then maybe just maybe there will be fewer deaths to teens around America, from alcohol poisoning, overdose, ect. I can make a connection with all of this, I have seen young teens get access to alcohol and it only took them maybe and hour or less. The bad thing is, is the young teens accessed this from a 17year old. Now how is that right?

So as a 13 year old I want you as a president to take a part of your time and try and help the abuse of drugs and alcohol around America. The lives of some young teens are in your hands. This Country isn’t perfect, but no country is. This could be one step closer to making it better though.

Dear Mr. President,

I am writing you on the very controversial subject of abortion. Most people look upon abortion as a necessary evil that should only be used in the most desperate of situations. I also share this view with many other Americans. Many, if not all people, chose to avoid this topic, but it needs to be brought to Washington D.C. and debated for a solution that everyone can agree on. You will soon find many insights on the topic of abortion.

First, My favorite solution and I think a good one is using abortion like a prescription drug. This would be a way to stop unnecessary abortion that takes the lives of people. Also, this might be a good time to try this idea since abortions are going down. So this is a great time to implement this idea. That is one solution we can use.

Secondly, we could get rid of abortion completely treating it like murder as some Americans see it. This may not be the greatest idea ever, because there are times when a woman has to get an abortion or she and the baby will die because of her lack of health. This plan also would be very hard to approve because of the different opinions of politicians. Every other idea will also have to get past congress but this idea is probably the least likely to get passed.

Thirdly, we could leave abortion alone and have this controversy go on forever, which I don’t think would be a great idea. There will bickering till this problem is solved. This idea does have a hope because women may grow resistant to the problems that cause abortion. If this happens then our problem will be solved. This probably never will happen. This isn’t a solution but it is a way for a scared president to cower out.

America is a great country, and it is our people make us great. Abortion kills our people making our country less great by killing what makes us great. Every country has their flaws and no country will ever be perfect but getting rid of unnecessary abortion will bring our country closer to perfection. So it is time to make a bold statement and do something to help our country. We need to make a choice on whether abortion is right or not.

Dear Mr. President;

Everyday, millions of animals die, and some of the species can never be retrieved again. We are going through a modern day extinction crisis, we have not seen this rapid extinction since the dinosaurs, I’m talking about the Frog. There is also many species right here in America that are taken for granted. Species are being wiped out every day. The world will go out of balance, if these animals disappear from the face of the earth. These animals help keep balance to the world. What should we do about it you ask? We need to commit more time and money to these animals if we want them to survive.
Each day millions of Frogs are wiped off the face of the earth. An Alarming rate that no one but us can stop. Pollution and habitat loss is a big issue, but the one that’s killing them all, is Chytrid fungus. Frogs aren’t the only amphibians that’s disappearing either. According to the Amphibian Arc Amphibians where the first animals to be affected by the change in climate and pollution. Frogs are an important part of this world, because they eat insects that we consider pests, minimizing the spread of disease. Also frog’s skin has a substance that protects them from microbes, this could lead to cures for human illnesses, including AIDS. Frogs have had a special place in many human cultures, being a bringer of life and good luck. Frogs have a special place in the web of life, if frogs where to be snatched from life, then the web would fall apart.
Some of the animals rights here in America are at huge risk. Leatherback Sea turtles are one of the many wonderful animals that are being killed. According to AnimalPlanet.com Pollution, nest disturbance, egg collection, and Fishing are a major part why the Leatherback turtle is endangered. Soon, this animal will disappear. Another animal is the California condor. Hunting, habitat loss, and environment poisons are the reason these wonderful animals are depleting. What are we going to do for all of these animals? Hopefully, after reading this letter, we will do something for these wonderful animals.
What should we do for all of these animals? Why do we need to help these animals? Animals help keep balance, and if one disappears then the world may get messed up. Say, the deer get taken away, by something, all of them. What would happen? The grass and plants would grow out of control. Yes, we might control it. But, what if the predator that ate the deer left? Then the Deer would eat all the plants and they would all starve and die. See, all animals help keep balance. Now, your asking, “What can I do about this?” The government needs to cut down on the pollution, and poisons we use to keep the animals, bugs and others out of our fields. And stop poisoning the mice and rats. These are all big factors why the animals are depleting. Habitat loss is also a huge issue. The government in America does a good job, and I’m glad, but how many buildings do we need? Please these animals need your help.
Many animals are waiting for your help. Please, this extinction is worsening, and the animals in the US are waiting. Please the world is getting worse. They need your help!

Dear Mr. President, I think that global warming is one major issue in the world today. One of my points came from a global warming timeline. My next topic is about the climate change. My last topic is how the sun affects global warming.
Global warming as a long history dating back to the 19th century when researchers found that the planet's temperature was steadily getting warmer. In the early 1800's the level of carbon dioxide was about 290 parts per million. During the first industrial revolution coal burning, land clearing, and railroads contributed to the increase of greenhouse gas emissions. English engineer Guy Callendar thought that the greenhouse effect was the cause of the warming trend. Anecdotal evidence suggests a warming trend was occurring. Scientists study the trend and discover that average temperatures had increased by several degrees since 1865.
Global warming causes many problems with the world’s land and oceans.
Soaring temperatures have led to the collapse of several huge ice shelves in the Canadian Arctic over the past few weeks.
One ice shelf on the northern coast of Ellesmere Island in Canada vanished in three days, exposing a coat that was buried for 4,000 years. At the same time, the Arctic’s thick, year-round sea ice cover has declined near the 2007 record of 2.6 million square kilometers this is less ice than the summer average minimum.
A summer with an ice-free Arctic is no “inevitable” and less than 2 decades away. This doesn’t mean there will be absolutely no ice, actually the Arctic Ocean will be like shattered crystal on a slate floor. It will be covered in sharp-edged icebergs and chunks of ice floating around waiting for ships of oilrigs to hit.
With the rising temperatures the ice won’t have a chance to freeze together like it used to in the winter, so the ice will continue to break at odd angles causing problems for ships and oil rigs.
The sun powers and affects the temperature, it also affects the climate, and without the sun we would live in eternal darkness. Sadly the Sun is helping cause a lot of global warming because of the way the greenhouse gases trap the suns rays.
The greenhouse gases caused by us get trapped up in the clouds. This causes the sun’s rays to bounce back and forth across the world and the greenhouse gases, which are causing the slow, rise of the temperature here on Earth.
The Earth’s temperature has increased by about .6 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees Fahrenheit. The sun accounts for about 25% of this increase.
The Earth’s climate depends on the delicate balance between incoming solar radiation and outgoing thermal radiation; green house gases don’t allow a lot of the outgoing thermal radiation.
Global warming is one of the worst problems in the United States; it has caused a major problem with the polar ice caps.
I want him to find alternate energy sources that won’t cause global warming.

Mr. President,
As you know we have been in the Iraq war for several years now. We have sent out many people to Iraq, but only few have returned. We are spending too much money on this. Is it a good cause anymore? How long has this been going on? All of these things contribute to my point. Let’s continue.
This country is spending over $562 billion or higher on a war that has gone on too long. Nationalpriorities.org is calculating to this minute how much we are spending on this pointless war. Almost a decade ago this happened and we are still fighting. This brings me to my next point.
In 2001 the Twin Towers and the World Trade Center went down. The “head” terrorist was from Sudan. We thought that we should attack. To this day almost 9 years later we feel we should still be over there. This problem has been solved. Is it worth losing our families to a war that has been going on too long? The New York Times article “Tug of war over Iraq’s Detainees” States the same. The writer states that the war has been an on going thing for over 8 years now. Why does this keep going on? Why are we stressing over something that doesn’t have to go on anymore? Why are we doing something that is killing our families?
Why is it that we are sending our troops into war? Why are you letting families die because of a war? It is estimated by The opposing View Points resource center article in the New York Times that about 4,169 American service members have already died. These members could be someone’s mother or father. My best friend’s dad my have to go to Iraq. He may get killed. When children lose their parents they don’t know what to do. I assure you that if I lost one of my parents I would go into a deep depression. I don’t think I’m the only one either. I think that our next president should end the war. Go over to Iraq’s Senator and talk to him and discuss his feelings. They need to work it out. We need to end this and soon.
The war is ruining Families. It has gone on too long and it needs to stop. Don’t you think $562 billion is a little too much to be spending on a war that is too long? 4,169 losses are too high. Those people have families. An 8-year war is too hard for us. Something needs to change and I think you know what it is.

Mr. President,
I believe that the United States needs to enforce a law about keeping underage drinking and drug abuse under control. I am just asking that you try and keep it under control because it can ruins peoples lives. I have had experience with it ruining lives because my mom is an alcoholic and I wish she would stop but Mr. President I just hope that you could help control it so it can’t hurt anyone else.
Amy Forliti of the St. Clouds Times claims that this happened. A Girl from WINONA College in Minnesota named Jenna Foellmi 20 years old. She had biochemistry major. Police reports said she had 3 beers during the day. Then later that day played beer pong, a drinking game, then had vodka. This Mr. President is an example of alcohol poisoning by an underage drinker.
I claim my next example. Someone I care about has been an alcoholic for 4 years now. There have been times where it’s been so out of control to were there have been times where she has almost died. Another example is she goes to work at 8:00 a.m. then she would come home at 4 to 5 o’clock p.m. but when she would come home she would be drunk and from and hour to 30 minutes after she got home. She would pass out. Then my grandparents told her that they thought it would be a better idea if we moved to South Dakota with them. Which means I had to leave all my friends where I lived because of my moms problem. Well then she took her problem with her to South Dakota and my grandparents left to go to Arizona for the winter. So then my sister and me had to take care of ourselves and eat whatever we could. Well finally I called my dad and told him what was going on and he thought it would be easier for my mom to get over her problem if my sister and me were gone. So finally my dad came and picked Dear us up and we are now living with him. My mom still hasn’t got over her problem completely. I still talk to my mom every once and awhile but I know for a fact she still isn’t over it. Mr. President I don’t want kids to have to go through the same things I have gone through. It’s not easy living with this.
Another problem in society is kids getting a hold of drugs to easily. Uri Friedman of the The Christian Science Monitor claims this next paragraph. Reports have that kids from 12-17 said they can get marijuana in an hour or less. Even though records have it that only 35 % of kids could. Then it dropped to 14%, yet 14 seems like a small number it isn’t in this case. If we could get that number to drop to at least 10% or below I think we or even you would be making a difference in our society.
So Mr. President I know you have a lot to do as the leader of our world. I know you have more important things to worry about probably but this is a subject that has affected me and the ones closest to me.

Dear Mr. President,
• I would like to catch your attention to an issue that many people suffer from. My issue I would like to inform you about is Mental Health. I like many others suffer from depression. We need depression drugs to help our mind and body cope with it. In a lot of cases, depression in teens leads to suicide.
• Depression, I as well as many other teens and adults suffer with depression. It affects more than 15 million people. It consists of different side affects, like self-mutilation, burning, anger, popularity, friends and family. It affects both that human being, and the people around them. Depression hurts.
• When people are diagnosed with depression, they usually start to use depression drugs. Such as Prozac, it is the most common used drug for depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I have both those two mental diseases, and am taking Prozac for them. This Medication may not have the same affects on every single, but there are also small varieties that may.
• Suicide is also a huge risk many teens and adults take. Due to severe depression, teens witness it, hear about it, and talk about it. It may give them ideas. From information scientists/counselors try to study why teens want to commit suicide. Nobody is 100% sure, but they do have theories. Though, studies have shown an average of 4 teenagers commit suicide every day. It is the third leading death in teens.
• As you know now, my issues worldwide, is mental health. Many people suffer from this, but 95% of them are teenagers. I would love it if you were to think about more and better counseling for us. Many of them don’t help; I would know from experience that they just make you worse. You can also try thinking of better pills to subscribe people with different problems. And one last thing, Make the world a better place!! Make it more positive and happy. Please, help us teens and adults get through the depression that runs out the human race. Thanks.

Dear Mr. President,
I am writing this letter in an attempt to bring to light the atrocious acts against homosexuals. Hate crimes need to be brought to light and the equality of all men needs to be observed. In my opinion the world seems to think that homosexuals have no rights and that is wrong Mr. President, that is wrong.

My first point comes from an article found at galegroup.com. The article is titled “homosexuals seek equal rights, not special rights.” In the article there is the story of a certain Charley Mitchell who was attacked from behind while he attempted open the door to his van after jogging. Mr. Mitchell was not killed but did suffer 2 facial fractures. He said, “I remember reaching for my keys, the next thing I knew I was in the CAT scanner in the hospital.” Hate crimes are not acceptable and need to be stopped.

Homosexuals are all citizens of the United States and thus they are all given the same rights as any other citizen. You of all people, Mr. President, should know about the Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Thomas Jefferson wrote that 232 years ago and I don’t thing he was excluding homosexuals. If he had been excluding anyone he would not have said, “All men are created equal” not, all straight men are created equal, but ALL men.

My third point is slightly more personal. Ten years ago, two men mortally beat a college student from Wyoming named Mathew Shepard because he was gay. The people of Wyoming have never forgotten this. The fact that the rights of a citizen of this great nation, the USA, are seemingly being forgotten when it comes to homosexuals is despicable. All people have rights and this should never be forgotten.

So you see Mr. President, there is a definite infraction on the rights of homosexuals around the country. This is one of the major issues challenging the development of the United States. We have to change in order to succeed.
