Dear Mr. President

I would like to call your attention to the rising problem of Domestic Violence. In the United States one in three women will be abused at one point in their lives. In ten years that number will be much higher if this matter is just overlooked. The most common types of abuse to women are physical and sexual abuse. There are even people that abuse their children by hitting them even though they are just kids. The punishment for Domestic Violence should be much higher so that people convicted with that crime don’t get out of jail and start again. The following information will support my views on Domestic Violence, and why it needs to stop.
Women in the United States have been abused for a long time, but in the last few years the number has risen a lot. One third of women get abused in their lives and don’t tell anyone. Sometimes they think that the men that abuse them don’t really mean it because they had been drinking, or for some other reason, like they did something to deserve it. But mostly its because they are threatened if they think about going to the police. Many times it isn’t stopped until its too late. Last November a man killed his girlfriend, and after the police investigated they found that it wasn’t the first time that he had abused her. That is only one example of Domestic Violence in the United States and there are many others that turned out the same, so whoever says that this isn’t a problem that needs attention, then there aren’t very many problems that do.
Another major form of Domestic Violence is child violence. Some parents are very abusive to their children, and its not right because they don’t have the option of defending themselves. In some homes kids are abused only sometimes because of bad grades, but that doesn’t make it any better than the parents that beat their children for no reason at all. The government needs to pay attention to all forms of Domestic Violence but this is probably the worst because its against kids that don’t have any control over it because they cant get away from it as easily as adults.
The most important way to prevent Domestic Violence is to make the punishment worse. Many people that go to prison for Domestic Violence get out and just go right back to abusing again. If they make the sentences longer for first time offenders, then it might teach them a lesson and they wouldn’t abuse anyone again. For those people that are second and third time offenders, need to get a really harsh sentence like life in prison or if they killed a person then they need to get put up to the death penalty. That way tax payers don’t have to pay for a killer to stay alive when he’s never going to get out of jail anyway. It’s a little harsh, but they brought it on themselves for killing another person.
Domestic Violence is a problem that can’t be ignored any longer. The number of women that are abused is way too high, and it is preventable. Kids just shouldn’t be abused at all, and I think that number can be brought down too. If higher penalties for committing Domestic Violence are added to that, then I think that Domestic Violence can almost go away.

Sincerely,
Sarah

Dear Mr. President,

A serious issue in this world right now is terrorism and we need to do something thing about it. Something that we should do about terrorism is finding an easier way to get rid of them. According to gowyld.net if we can find out how to do that we can win the war. If we manage to do this and win the war all the troops can come back home and none of them will have to die until next time. Something that we can do about terrorist is getting rid of their leader. According to gowyld.net if we can take out o samba bin laden that would have a big affect on terrorist. All we need to do is find the initial area he is in and that would make it easier to find him. Then the terrorists are going down. Something that we did do about the terrorist is go to war with them. According to CNN sending all those troops to Iraq was a bad idea cause now they are all dieing? We need to bring them back until we find out how to get rid of terrorist easier or find o samba bin laden.

Sincerely,
Dillon B

Dear Mr. President

Today I would like to bring your attention to steroid use by our professional athletes. Steroid use gives athletes an unfair advantage over others. Steroids harm athletes, the sport they’re involved in, and they give the player a bad name.
First, the steroids that athletes are taking are Anabolic steroids. They may not harm them right now but they will later in life. The way it will harm them is that it will cause tears in mussel fiber. As long as the athlete is working out every day it will be fine but as soon as he stops then his muscles get weak and muscle strands start tearing.
The next thing is it will harm the sport. The way it will harm the team or sport is the player will be bigger, faster, and stronger so he will have an advantage against his opponents. Like in weight lifting in the Olympics they don’t want to have a guy or gal that is bigger and stronger because they took steroids and cheated to get there.
Lastly, it will give the player a bad name. It would give the player a bad name because steroids are illegal and if he was caught using them he will be kicked out and will be remembered as the guy that cheated. An example is Berry Bonds. In baseball he had the most homeruns in a career. He took steroids though so it is a record that he cheated to get.
These steroids are bad and what I would like you to do is have the coaches keep giving random drug tests. I would also like for you to have coach’s check the players’ lockers and a random house search to see if there is any sign of steroids.

(Information from Ed. Stefan Kiesbye)

Sincerely,
Your Friend

Dear Mr. President,

In the alcohol business all the companies make commercials and the media says they are promoting under age drinking and they are wrong. They just want to promote their new drink. Some kids might be stupid enough to drink. In this letter I will tell you why I am talking about this.
First, I will talk about why they make the commercials. They make the commercials because they want to promote their new drink. Even if they were promoting under age drinking the kids couldn’t even buy the drinks. Liquor stores will not sell kids the drinks. They have to be 21.
Also they have freedom of speech and that means they can say what they want to say. If they can say what they want why can’t they get away with it? The government is trying to censor every thing on TV and the radio. I think that is wrong. If the First Amendment says freedom of speech give it to them.
If the kids are stupid enough to drink and if they get caught that’s their choice. Some kids might drink because they want to. That is their choice and if they want to say it was the commercials that make them want to drink. If the commercials are the reasons they drink they are just stupid.
As you cans see Mr. President the commercial doesn’t cause under age drinking, if the kids want to believe the commercials that is their choice. If they have freedom of speech let them use it. Don’t be so outrageous about this stuff.

Sincerely,

Dylan C.

Dear Mr. President,

I am going to tell you about the problems with drug and alcohol addiction. First, there are at least 20 million people still wrestling with addiction. Next, addiction is an illness. Last, people try to hide their problem with addiction.

First, there are a lot of people wrestling with these addiction but you have to think of all of the other people dealing with it like family members. According to Michael Miller of Newsweek (Dec 12, 2005), there are lots of people wrestling with addiction. Addiction is hard to see when its in your family.

Next, we all think that addiction is a weakness. Well its NOT! Addiction is a very bad illness. According to Jeneen Interl in Newsweek on (March 3, 2008), addiction is not a weakness.

Last, there are millions of people trying to hide that they have an addiction, and that’s very bad. I myself have people in my family that are struggling with addiction, but they are trying to hide it.

These are many reasons why addiction is a problem. I would like you to try and help people recover from their addictions.

Sincerely,

Gabby

Child Abuse

Dear Mr. President,

I am here to say that Child abuse is out of hand!!! In 1997 alone there was 3,195,000 people reporting child abuse. Child abuse is so bad that it is hurting me and everyone else!!! But the most surprising thing is that Delaware’s liaison states that the only reason that there is a 27% increase is due to the act of 2 16 year olds!!!!!

According to Ed. Bryan J. Grapes. San Diego: Greenhaven Press, 2001 of current Controversies: Child Abuse. In 1997 alone there was an estimate of 3,195,000 reports of Child abuse!!! As you can see that is a very large number for just the U.S.

According to Ed. Angela Lewis. San Diego: Greenhaven Press, 2005 of At Issue: Child sexual abuse. Child abuse is affecting everyone everywhere! It has even affected me in my own life!!! I have seen my friends and my family both physically and mentally and sexually abused! It is a serious problem!!!!

According to Ed. Henry H. Kim. San Diego: Greenhaven Press, 2000 of Opposing Viewpoints Digests: Child abuse. According to Delaware liaison the 27% increase in child abuse was due to the careless acts of 2 teenagers. They say that people started to report lies on the Internet and that this started after the 2 reckless teens killed their newborn child!! Delaware should not blame the increase on the 2 teens because there actually are other people who try to lie and tell them selves that child abuse is not happening!!! Maybe the newborns death made them realize that it is a problem!!!!

Child abuse is a problem and we need to fix it!!! I would like you to try to make a more harsh child abuse system!! Maybe then the problem will go away!!

Sincerely,

Kristin

Dear Mr. President

There are many issues in America. There are many needs to look at. I will be talking about drugs & alcohol in this letter to you. Here is some thing to think about.
Drugs are a big deal in America. So many people in America do it. Some times they might get their kids hooked on it too. So many immigrants that bring weed in to America. Those are some things we need to look at.
Alcohol is another bad influence that people are doing. Its not illegal, but it is something dangerous to people. Drunk driving is a big thing that people do with out thinking. Some kids get hooked on it now. That’s the big deal.
We can’t really stop it but we might beadle to help it. One thing I think and many other people think is that you should be 18 to drink, vote, and more. It’s hared to control your kids when they are moved out of the house. They are still going to try it when they are under age.
Some drugs aren’t bad but they aren’t good. Some drugs are good. But consuming too much is bad. It can help with some diseases. The only thing that is bad is that people can’t stop smoking it.
Alcohol is different. You should only be able to buy so much at a time. Too many people are alcoholics and just drink their life away
We need to prepare the kids for what will be going on in their world. We should talk more about this in schools.
Those are some things we need to consider in our lives. I hope this made sense to you. You’re going to do grate things and help great people along the way.
Sincerely
Erik

Dear Mr. President,

Coal-fired power plants are polluting our world and destroying the Ozone layer, which will vanish eventually, and we will die from either lack of air or/and being burned alive. We need to think about the Ozone layer and how to protect it.
Our world is deteriorating at a faster rate than it was 10-20 years ago. Reasons for this are more co2 and so2 in our atmosphere. According to James Haley, of the Sierra Club, the world is in much need of help.
Since 2000 our co2 and so2 emissions from our coal-fired power plants. Reasons are our population is going up in numbers faster than ever. Cite your source: According to Michael Logan, of the Sierra Club, Coal Is the Wrong Energy Security.
We need new energy sources like wind and solar powered plants to make our world more efficient in the ways of energy. According to James Haley, of the Sierra Club, Coal-Fired Power Plants Create Harmful Emissions.
My reasons for telling you this are wildlife, the world and my personal problem with it. Pollution effect everything and everyone for example animal like the polar bear are inching closer and closer to extinction and so are we. Pollution is destroying trees, the ocean, and the air. My position in this is pollution shortens our lifetime and is hurt us all. So if u can or could, would you please do something about this?
Our world is becoming more and more polluted every day because of coal-fired power plants. I want you to help me and the rest of the world in this time of need.

Sincerely,
Barak W.

Dear Mr. President,
Our biggest issue is homelessness. Everyone should have a home. There are almost a million homeless people in the world today. Most of the homeless people are not being treated well by homeless shelters. You need to find ways to raise funds to help the homeless. I want you to help every homeless person to find a place to live and be out of the coldness and be out of the gutter. Everyone should have a home. According to the Amsterdam News, most of the homeless people are not being treated well by homeless shelters. Families have nowhere to go and have no steady incomes. People who need help have to wait for hours before their name is called. Sometimes the shelters “choose” the files they want to work on and don’t help people equally. Most families cannot move forward. There are almost a million homeless people in the world today. According to the abstract- U S History- European Colonization of Americas (1492-1775), everyone should have a home for comfort and warmth. Without homes they come addicted to drugs and get into the wrong crowd. Homeless people can suffer a lot. The article from Creative Kids, Summer 2007, suggests there is a need to find ways to raise funds to help the homeless. The homeless have no money so they have to eat out of the garbage can. You need to find something that the homeless can eat and a house to live in. They need to love someone too, so there not alone.

According to MacLean’s article the homeless have no family support. They have no connection to their family or siblings. Getting food and shelter is a challenge for them. Their family can’t even see them. There is only 32 percent that can have a weekly contact with their parents or siblings.

According to Newsweek article the Department of Homeless Services in New York City is weak. Homeless shelters there are so filthy that they are not feeding them properly, so people get sick. Now, there are a lot of homeless people on the streets. They beg just for a little bit money like a dollar that’s all. They just want people to give them money and help them with their struggles in life.

In conclusion, homelessness is a huge problem. Mr. President, it is important that you make laws in each state that help the homeless. With your help there be less homelessness in the world.

Sincerely,
Micheal

Dear Mr. President,

According to Washington Post (Washington, Dc) Sept.26, 2008 By Rob Stein there is many problems with in the USA but I’m bringing the research of stem cell to your attention. In this paragraph it will much funding of stem cell the upgrade in technology.

First, we should put federal funding into the stem cell research. The funding could save some peoples lives that are why we should fund stem cell research. The funding could upgrade our technology in the stem cell research.

Next, Stem cell research could help us in the future. We can help make extra body parts for disabled soldiers that were wounded in Iraq.

Last but not least, we should upgrade our technology and upgrade health science to make a better country or would. We can help the economy to rise again by selling our farther technology to other countries.

That’s what I wish to bring to your attention because it’s a very important issue in the would.

Sincerely,
Hawkins D.

Dear Mr. President,
I am a junior high school student who wants to be a physicist. But it seems that physics is not given the respect by the government that it deserves. The government needs to support physics research more, because knowledge is the thing that makes us great.

Mr. President, the thing that inspired this letter is the lhc project conducted by Switzerland. The LHC or the Large Hadron Collider is the world’s biggest particle accelerator being used to find a particle called the Higgs boson, which will prove or disprove the Higgs Theory, which is that objects with mass interact with the Higgs energy field. And though I believe knowledge is for everyone, this puts Europe ahead of the U.S. in physics. The project has been delayed. In my opinion a wake up call was needed to concentrate more on physics.

One of the reasons that we need to concentrate on science is it has an untold amount of practical applications. Teleportation is only one of the wonders that was at one time thought to be science fiction that is now reasonable due to the great advancements in modern technology. But these things can only happen if we are willing to help but more than anyone else you need to help.

By now you are probably wondering what you can do about this. The answer is funding. Right now according to physicist Joseph Lykken, “Science is in crisis of funding.” The right amount of funding can make miracles happen. The matter of science is as important, no, more important than other problems. Remember, there is not any scientific endeavor not worth investigating

So, Mr. President, physics is in trouble and we need to help it. I, as a future physicist, hope that in the future there is something in psychics for me and only you can help

From Jesse

Dear Mr. President
My name is Jordan I would like to point something out to your attention and it involves a problem to a lot of people, well I know that you hear about a lot of situations for other people and just explode from all the pressure, or something. I just want you to hear me out about homeless people that are in trouble and really need your help now! People are dieing as we speak. These people are old men and women, young children and adults living on the filthy and disease infesting streets and you’re the only person who can help with that problem. We need more funding into shelters for the homeless for those who still and don’t have work that way the shelters can provide more food, refreshments, heat, and of course shelter to those who are homeless because we don’t want them to die do we? These peoples appearance may seem odd or disturbing but they can’t take care of themselves. Mr. President they need your help more now than ever and you’re the only one that can practically do anything for these people. Getting to know all this, is reading information from others who care for the homeless and you to make a difference by giving them a more fair chance to live. I believe that even though some do drink a lot and do drugs but I think that they do that for depression and wanting to have something make them feel better I know that’s not good and that is why they need your help for jobs and sheltering so those people who are living upon the streets can get back on the right track. I wanted to just ask for your help and hopefully my letter has helped you understand how serious this situation is, and please try and make a difference for those poor and homeless people.

Sincerely;

Jordan
